On «Suspilne. News», the rector of Kherson State University spoke about the admission campaign.

KSU continues to work, develop, and fulfill its main mission. The university remains strong thanks to its faculty, modern digital infrastructure, international projects, and responsibility towards students.

«Today, more than 2,200 students are studying at the university, and this year's admission campaign is demonstrating positive dynamics. We have almost 50% more applications submitted than during the same period last year. This is an important signal of trust in Kherson State University», – said KSU Rector Oleksandr Spivakovsky.

High interest from applicants is observed in the fields of study «Psychology», «Law», «Management», «Hotel and Restaurant Business», as well as medical specialties – «Medicine», «Therapy and Rehabilitation», «Social Work».

«The new educational program «Laboratory Diagnostics» is also showing a good start, its launch being a response to the modern needs of the healthcare system. Demand for the specialties «Speech Therapy» and «Primary Education» remains traditionally stable. At the same time, as in the rest of the country, we are concerned about the decrease in interest among young people in pedagogical specialties. This is a challenge not only for universities but also for the state as a whole. Another trend is a certain decrease in demand for IT specialties. And this is despite the fact that KSU has a strong scientific school, a modern digital ecosystem, and many years of experience in training IT specialists. I am convinced: the future of Ukraine is impossible without fundamental mathematical education. It is mathematics, physics, engineering, and other fundamental sciences that shape the technological capability of the state. We already see today that in the technological confrontation with Russia, it is not only weapons or resources that are of decisive importance, but above all human intelligence, science, engineering thought, and the ability to create our own technologies. That is why investments in fundamental education today – are investments in the security, freedom, and future of Ukraine», – commented the rector.

He also drew attention to the decision of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the position of the Kherson Regional Military Administration regarding support for applicants from frontline territories. According to the rector, this is an extremely important step that opens additional opportunities for young people to obtain higher education.

«For Kherson State University, the admission campaign — is not just about enrolling students. It is — about the future of the Kherson region. About the people who, after our Victory, will restore the region, develop communities, and work in hospitals, schools, businesses, and government institutions. Universities prepare more than just specialists. They shape the Consciousness of society. It is in university classrooms that ideas are born that later change the economy, the state, and civilization. Therefore, today we are fighting not only for the number of applicants. We are fighting for Ukraine's right to have its own future. We continue to fulfill our mission: to preserve the university, to preserve the academic community, and to surely return to a peaceful Ukrainian Kherson», – emphasized Oleksandr Spivakovsky.
