"How to increase a scientist's publication activity or how to choose a journal for publication"

As part of the Days of Science of Kherson State University - 2026, the KhSU Scientific Library held an online event dedicated to topical issues of scientific and publishing activities and the choice of high-quality scientific journals for publishing research results.

The event was moderated by the Director of the KhSU Scientific Library, Alla Koval, who in her opening remarks emphasized the importance of developing a publication culture, academic integrity, and digital literacy of a modern scientist in the context of the transformation of the scientific environment.

The speaker of the event was Alina KRYVOBOKOVA - editor of the KhAI Scientific and Technical Library, a specialist in the preparation and support of scientific journals, work with international scientometric databases, and information and analytical support of scientific activities.

Wednesday, May 20, 2026

During the meeting, the speaker presented practical recommendations for increasing the publication activity of scientists, choosing authoritative scientific journals, and using modern research tools.

Particular attention was paid to the criteria for selecting a scientific journal. Participants learned how to check publication indexing in international databases Scopus and Web of Science, evaluate the scientometric indicators of journals, analyze information about the publisher, and identify signs of clone journals or dubious publications.

Alina Kryvorobkova emphasized the need to adhere to the principles of academic integrity and urged scientists to avoid publishing in journals associated with the Russian Federation and Belarus, given current international sanctions and reputational risks for Ukrainian science.

During the event, issues regarding the maintenance of researcher profiles, specifically ORCID, Google Scholar, and other scientometric platforms, as well as the importance of data synchronization and citation monitoring, were also discussed. The speaker devoted particular attention to modern digital tools for working with bibliography and scientific sources, including Zotero and Mendeley.

Participants received useful advice on using artificial intelligence tools in scientific work and also learned about modern challenges in the field of academic publishing and new requirements for the re-attestation of Ukrainian professional scientific journals.

During the discussion, particular attention was paid to issues of academic ethics, researcher responsibility, and the reputational challenges that Ukrainian higher education institutions face in the international scientific space.

The event took place in the format of an active professional discussion. Participants asked the speaker numerous questions regarding the specifics of choosing professional journals, the operation of international scientometric databases, journal evaluation criteria, maintenance of scientific profiles, and the risks of publishing in unethical or dubious publications.

We sincerely thank all participants for their activity, questions, and interest in the topic!
