Tetiana Alkhimova

(26 April 1997 – 06 November 2021)

   Tetyana was born in Tsiurupinsk (now known as Oleshky) in Kherson Region. She lost her parents at an early age and was brought up by her grandmother. In 2015, she graduated from the Kozachi Laheri Secondary School with a Certificate of Merit for exceptional achievements in English and the History of Ukraine. In 2019, she graduated from the Faculty of Economics and Management at KSU with a Bachelor’s degree in Tourism.

     Tetiana Alkhimova was a veteran, who participated in the JFO in Donbas. In August 2019, she enlisted in the 57th Separate Motorised Infantry Brigade named after Koshovyi Otaman Kost Hordiienko. She served as the commander of the UAV Section within the UAV Platoon of the reconnaissance company of the 57th Separate Motorised Infantry Brigade named after Otaman Kostia Hordienko. On 6 November 2021, Junior Sergeant Tetiana Alkhimova was killed by a sniper’s bullet while performing a combat mission in the JFO zone near Muratove in Novoaidar district, Luhansk Region. She was buried on November 10 in Nova Kakhovka at the Alley of Glory. Her bravery was recognised with the For the Defense of the Native State medal and the 57th Brigade Command badge.

Anatolii Oliinyk

(26 June 1992 – 17 November 2014)

   Anatolii was a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Law at Kherson State University. He served as a Sergeant and an instructor of the training platoon at the 169th Training Center of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.  He was born in the village of Antonivka, Skadovsk district, Kherson region.

   From October 2011 to November 2011, he was a cadet in the training company for the preparation and qualification of contract-service personnel of the separate training automobile battalion (Desna). From November 2011 to November 2013, he served as a driver in the supply platoon of the support company at the training center (Desna). From November 2013 to November 17, 2014, he was an instructor in the training platoon of the training company of the separate training automobile battalion (Desna). On 17 November 2014, Anatolii died while on a mission to recover the bodies of fallen soldiers near Debaltseve, Donetsk region. His vehicle was destroyed by a radio-controlled anti-tank improvised explosive device (IED) near the village of Orlovo-Ivanivka, Shakhtarsk district, Donetsk Region. He was posthumously awarded the Order "For Courage," 3rd Class in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 311/2015 dated 4 June 2015, for "personal courage and high professionalism demonstrated in the defence of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and loyalty to the military oath".

Ruslan Storcheus

(11 January 1979 – 25 August 2014)

   Ruslan Storcheus was the first commander of the "Kherson" Special Purpose Patrol Police Battalion, who died heroically near Ilovaisk on 25 August 2014.

  Ruslan was born on 11 January 1979 in Kherson into a working-class family. From 1986 to 1995, he attended Kherson Secondary School No. 30. In 199,6 he graduated from the Academic Lyceum at the Kherson State Pedagogical Institute. From 1996 to 2001, Ruslan studied at Kherson State University, majoring in Geography and Biology, qualifying as a teacher of Geography, Biology, and Economics. He was actively involved in university public life. In 200,9 he graduated from the Kherson Law Institute of the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs with a degree in Law. He was head of the legal department at the Kherson Electromechanical Plant, at Khersonavtotrans LLC and Generali Garant Inc. He also worked as a Legal Counsel for the Litigation and Claims Management Group at the Kherson Branch of the PRJSC Garant-Auto Ukrainian Insurance Company.

  Ruslan Storcheus was an active participant in the Orange Revolution, the Revolution of Dignity (in Kyiv), and the People’s Self-Defence in Kherson. Following the events in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine, he volunteered for the Kherson Special Purpose Patrol Police Battalion of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Kherson region. In May 2014, he was appointed Commander of this battalion. On 25 August 2014, in the area of Ilovaisk, Donetsk region, where combat operations against terrorists were underway, his vehicle was ambushed and hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. The commander of the Kherson special battalion and father of three children died on the spot. He was posthumously awarded the Order "For Courage," 3rd Class in accordance with Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 838/2014 for "personal courage and high professionalism demonstrated in the defence of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and loyalty to the military oath". On 16 February 2015, a commemorative plaque in honour of Ruslan Storcheus was officially unveiled at Kherson State University. It was his fellows who initiated its installation and raised the funds for its creation. Based on the decision of the KSU staff conference (Protocol No. 3 dated 20 December 2019), the memorial plaque was relocated to the university’s memorial complex.
