KIU Research Fellowship in Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies (Winter Semester 2026/2027)
The KIU Research Fellowship in Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies supports innovative interdisciplinary research on Ukraine in the fields of history, cultural studies, social sciences, economics, law, conflict studies, STS, media studies, and related disciplines.
The program is implemented at the European University Viadrina in collaboration with leading academic institutions in Berlin, including ZOiS, Humboldt University Berlin, Free University Berlin, Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, and Wissenschaftskolleg Berlin.
The research topic for the winter semester is: Transitional Justice in Ukraine: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Accountability, Memory, Democratic Renewal and Reconstruction.
The program focuses on the study of the processes of transformation of Ukraine, in particular:
- democratic changes and challenges after 1991
- consequences of the Revolution of Dignity (2014) and the course for European integration
- annexation of Crimea and full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation
- violations of international law and human rights
- responsibility for war crimes and collaboration
- institutional reforms and legal mechanisms of justice
- social understanding of war, violence and trauma
- processes of recovery, memory and democratic development
The internship supports research on:
legal mechanisms for investigating war crimes and mass violations
political and sociological aspects of overcoming the consequences of violence
culture of memory and memorial policy
social and political reconstruction after the war
conditions for restoring peace, justice and democracy in Ukraine
Program format:
- 9 full-time research scholarships
- work in an international academic environment Viadrina and partner institutions in Berlin
- active participation in colloquiums, lectures and scientific discussions
- interdisciplinary cooperation with researchers from different countries
Format and conditions of stay
A residency scholarship at the European University Viadrina provides for:
- a monthly stipend of €2000–€2300 (depending on career level)
- a one-time compensation for travel expenses (according to DAAD standards)
- a job at KIU in Frankfurt (Oder)
- mandatory full-time participation in all academic events
Expected results
At the end of the program, participants must submit:
- scientific publications
- project applications
- conference panels and other academic results
The development of long-term cooperation between participants and KIU, including the preparation of joint projects and publications after the internship is especially welcome.
Required documents
To apply, you must prepare the following package of documents:

- A list of scientific publications, as well as a brief description of the 5 most relevant publications for the future project

- A substantiated proposal from an academic host from the KIU network or a description of the desired form of cooperation with him
Application procedure
Candidates who meet the program requirements must apply by July 5, 2026 through the KIU online portal.
Registration in the system is mandatory and opens from June 1, 2026. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

International Program "Culture"
Ukrainian cultural institutions, public organizations, art schools, higher education institutions and representatives of the creative sector are invited to participate in international partnership projects within the framework of the "Culture" Program, co-financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA) and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism for 2021–2028.
The total budget of the program is 106.48 million euros. The initiative is aimed at supporting cultural heritage, developing art and culture, strengthening international cooperation, as well as strengthening the resilience of communities and overcoming the consequences of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
The program is implemented in partnership between Poland and Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, and the possibility of involving Ukrainian partners in international projects is envisaged.
The program consists of two main components:
1. “Cultural heritage restored and effectively managed with the active participation of local communities”
Provides support for projects with preservation and development of cultural heritage. Ukrainian partners can engage in educational and cultural initiatives, capacity-building activities, community engagement, and the preservation of traditional crafts and knowledge.
2. “Increasing participation in diverse local artistic and cultural life” Supports artistic and cultural projects, including exhibitions, festivals, residencies, mentoring programs, master classes, and training. Under this component, Ukrainian artists and cultural workers can participate in joint international projects and professional development programs.
The program creates additional opportunities for the development of international partnerships between Ukrainian cultural institutions and higher education institutions.

British Council 90th Anniversary Research Fellowships (University of Edinburgh)
The programme provides up to two 12-month postdoctoral fellowships at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at the University of Edinburgh, starting in January 2027.
Format and duration
12 months of research work
10 months – based at IASH (Edinburgh, UK)
up to 2 months – in the applicant’s country/region (for knowledge exchange and dissemination of results in collaboration with the British Council)

Who can apply

Research topics should correspond to priority areas in the areas of:

- English language,
- and also to the cross-sectoral strategic interests of the British Council, in particular:
- international relations and “soft power”,
- international development and peacebuilding,
- cultural relations and cultural diplomacy.
Programme objectives

Open Call: Research Infrastructures Fellowship (RIFF) for Ukraine
Masaryk University (Czech Republic) has announced an open call within the Research Infrastructures Fellowship (RIFF) initiative, aimed at supporting Ukrainian scientists by providing access to modern research infrastructure and integration into the European scientific space.
The aim of this open call is to collect applications from existing and future Research Infrastructures (RI) in Ukraine for their further inclusion in the Roadmap of Research Infrastructures of Ukraine, which is being developed within the framework of the RIFF project.
The submitted applications will undergo several selection stages, including:
- eligibility check;
- peer review;
- prioritization process.
The results will identify the most capable research infrastructures to be included in the Roadmap.
Participation in the competition also opens up additional opportunities within the RIFF project, including:
- participation in training courses for research infrastructure managers;
- study visits;
- workshops, thematic summits and summer schools;
- participation in scholarship and exchange programs;
- establishing cooperation with European research infrastructures for joint projects in the future.
It is worth noting that inclusion in the Roadmap does not guarantee automatic funding. At the same time, after its completion, it will be actively promoted among international donors, in particular the European Commission, EU governments, international financial institutions and foundations, which significantly increases the chances of attracting funding.
It is also emphasized that this open competition is the only opportunity for research infrastructures to be considered for inclusion in the Roadmap.
How to apply?
To participate in the competition, you must fill out the online application form. The application must be submitted in Ukrainian.
Participants must choose one of two tracks:
Track 1 – for existing research infrastructures;
Track 2 – for infrastructures that are in the planning or creation stage.
It is important that the submitted application meets the definition of research infrastructure according to Ukrainian legislation (harmonized with EU approaches). Detailed requirements are provided in the application form.
Information support
Information webinars in Ukrainian are organized for potential participants, during which explanations are provided about the conditions of participation and the application process. Participants also have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with webinar recordings and presentation materials.

The UK academic mentoring scheme
Science for Ukraine – UK
The UK academic mentoring scheme is run by volunteers from Science for Ukraine-UK as a rapid response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. We aim to support colleagues from Ukrainian universities directly affected by the invasion through mentoring.
Science for Ukraine UK mentoring endeavours to support Ukrainian colleagues to navigate through UK academia. We do not cover immigration advice, financial advice and pastoral support - the scheme is only intended for professional purposes. The specific objectives of the scheme are helping Ukrainian colleagues with:
● career planning, CVs & applications
● networking & profile building
● working in the UK (academic culture)
● publication process & academic writing
● securing research funding (UK- funders only)
● promotion and progression
In the scheme mentees will be matched to a mentor of an appropriate career stage and from a similar discipline. The mentoring will commence as soon as the match is found via the PushFar Platform which provides a wide range of opportunities to communicate online and offline, arrange meetings, take notes etc. We anticipate that mentoring sessions will be carried out online via means that suit both mentee and mentor. We advise for the mentors and mentees to meet at least every two weeks for at least 3 months.
