KSU participated in the first transnational meeting of the Erasmus+ SAFER project in Greece
A delegation from Kherson State University has begun work as part of the first transnational meeting of the international Erasmus+ project SAFER – Sustainable Agrarian Future: Enhancing Climate Resilience and Green Growth in Higher Education («Sustainable Agrarian Future: Enhancing Climate Resilience and Green Growth in Higher Education»), which is taking place on June 9–11 in Thessaloniki (Greece) at the International Hellenic University.
Kherson State University is represented at the event by – Rector Oleksandr Spivakovsky, Vice-Rector for Internationalization Alla Tsapiv, Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Geography and Ecology Ihor Pylypenko, and Head of the International Department Yevheniia Revenko. KSU representatives are participating in the meeting's work and discussing key directions for project implementation together with partners from Greece, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Egypt, and Jordan.
Professor Petros Samaras, Vice-Rector of the International Hellenic University, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech; also featured were presentations by European Commission Project Officer Paul Harris and SAFER project coordinator Professor Achilleas Kontogeorgos.
The first day is dedicated to aligning a shared vision for the project, planning work, and discussing the main work packages. This includes project coordination and management, needs assessment and strategic planning, university capacity building, development of curricula and digital learning, engagement with communities and business representatives, as well as dissemination of results, inclusivity, and ensuring project sustainability.
Particular attention is paid to the issues of training specialists capable of working in conditions of climate challenges, implementing modern educational approaches, and developing competencies necessary for the sustainable development of the agricultural sector.
"For Kherson State University, participation in the SAFER project is of particular importance. The Kherson region directly feels the consequences of war, climate change, and environmental challenges. That is why we are interested in developing modern education that will help shape a new generation of specialists for the recovery and sustainable development of the southern regions of Ukraine. Two more days of intensive work and professional discussions lie ahead, including my speech, as well as the planning of joint initiatives with international partners. I am convinced that KSU's participation in the SAFER project opens new opportunities for the development of the university, our students, and faculty, and will also contribute to the implementation of European practices in the field of sustainable development and climate resilience," – noted Oleksandr Spivakovsky.
